About This Show

This contemporary interpretation of Shakepeare’s Macbeth aims to highlight themes of political manipulation, abuse of military might, and the downward spiral of an anti-hero caught in the grips of egotism and power. As the ambitious young general Macbeth and his second in command Banquo heroically return home from the war; the two are confronted with a prophetic message from an Anderson Cooper-esque Reporter which claims Macbeth will become the leader of the free world. Guided by his ever persuasive and politically savvy wife (Wallis Herst), Macbeth assassinates President Duncan (Megan Morrison) and assumes the role of Commander in Chief. As Macbeth’s tyrannical leadership causes to chaos throughout the nation, Malcolm and Macduff mount a campaign to dispose of the despot. While remaining true to the text, the production will explore Shakespeare’s interpretation of a situation highly relatable to the political chaos in which the United States finds itself today.
