About This Show

Harrison, Texas by Academy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright and screenwriter Horton Foote is a serious and unsentimental comedy about the eclectic characters that populate the small Texas town of "Harrison", which has been Mr. Foote’s muse and inspiration for more than half a century. Composed of three one-act plays (The Midnight Caller, Blind Date, and The One-Armed Man) Harrison, Texas paints a vivid portrait of small town life and the fractious soul of middle class America.

In The Midnight Caller life in Mrs. Crawford’s boardinghouse is disrupted by the arrival of a beautiful girl with a broken heart. (In the first of many celebrated collaborations with Horton Foote, Robert Duvall played the character of Harvey Weems in Sanford Meisner’s production of The Midnight Caller in 1961.) Blind Date is the comic tale of a former beauty queen struggling mightily to polish up a rough-edged teenage girl for her last-ditch rendezvous with an unwanted blind date. In The One-Armed Man, C.W. Rowe, the bombastic owner of the local cotton gin is confronted by a disgruntled former employee who "wants his arm back."
