About This Show

The moving new musical by Grammy, Emmy, and Academy Award winner Steve Martin and Grammy winner Edie Brickell, Bright Star is directed by Tony winner Walter Bobbie and choreographed by Josh Rhodes. It won the 2016 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music and the Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Musical and Best Score. It also received five Tony nominations, including one for best musical.

Inspired by an actual event, Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just back from World War Two, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past — and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.

Propelled by an ensemble of onstage musicians and dancers, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion, beautiful melodies, and powerful performances. An uplifting theatrical experience that holds the audience tight in its grasp, Bright Star is daringly hopeful.
