About This Show

Pasadena Playhouse presents the West Coast premiere of Blue, a play by Charles Randolph-Wright. Business is booming at the Clark family funeral home in small town South Carolina. With feisty matriarch Tillie offering unsolicited advice, son Sam Jr. runs the profitable business, Sam III runs with the girls, 12-year-old Reuben runs errands and fashion-conscious mother Peggy runs up the credit cards. Smart and stylish and completely out of place in her provincial surroundings, Peggy is a force to be reckoned with. Enlivened by the music of sexy jazz singer Blue Williams, Peggy holds court at family gatherings and lays out her grandiose ambitions for her two sons? futures. This richly comic tale of a well-to-do black family abounds with tenderness, acceptance and the search for unconditional love.
