About This Show

The Musical Theatre Guild is proud to present a one-night only concert of THE BAKER’S WIFE, with book by Joseph Stein and music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The endearing but contentious inhabitants of a rural village in Provence, France, have been without a baker for seven weeks and they’ve begun to bicker ceaselessly. Finally, Aimable the baker arrives with his young wife Genevieve and everything seems delicious again – until a young, strapping local hanydman seduces Genevieve away from her husband. Driven to distraction by breadlessness, the villagers lure her back, where she and Aimable have a poignant reconciliation. A litlting parable about the foolishness of infatuation and the dangers of hasty love.
