About This Show

Center Theatre Group marks the 15th Anniversary of Salon at the Taper with
A Lovely Way to Spend an Evening, celebrating the music of Jimmy McHugh. Salon XV is hosted by the silken-voiced Michael Feinstein, who created, and traditionally has anchored, the annual songfest since its inception.

Jimmy McHugh (1916-1969) was an Oscar-nominated composer whose music was sung by every interpreter of standards and popular music of his day, including Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Dean Martin, Tony Bennett and Sammy Davis, Jr. His “day” spanned the decades of the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s, with unforgettable hits like “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, Baby,” “On the Sunny Side of the Street,” “I’m in the Mood for Love,” “Exactly Like You,” “Thank You For A Lovely Evening,” “It’s A Most Unusual Day,” “Picture Me Without You” and “Let’s Get Lost.” His timeless work continues to be heard, with artists such as Diana Krall, Barbara Cook, Dianne Reeves, Steve Tyrell, Cyndi Lauper, Lillias White and Aretha Franklin recording his songs.

Salon XV is directed and produced by Salon veterans Gordon Hunt and Susan Clines, respectively.
