About This Show

Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic musical The Sound of Music. Songs include “My Favorite Things,” “Do Re Mi,” “Edelweiss” and the inspiring “Climb Every Mountain.

Set in Austria in 1938, the musical tells the story of Maria Rainer, a convent novice who is sent to be governess to the children of retired Naval officer and widower Captain Von Trapp. Though the Captain’s military discipline casts a cold shadow over his home and his children, Maria inspires the family to find joy in everyday life through music. The book is based on the true story of the Trapp family who left their lives behind to escape the Nazi occupation of Austria and toured the world, bringing their music to thousands of people across the globe.
