About This Show

Peter Schaffer’s Amadeus centers on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s life and music. Set in the opulence of 18th century Vienna this riveting and wickedly funny story, based half in history and half in legend, carves out a fierce portrait of court composer Antonio Salieri and his intense jealousy of the musical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

From the time he was a little boy, music consumed Antonio Salieri’s soul. He wanted nothing more than to be a legacy in the musical world. When Salieri encounters the young Mozart, he is brutally confronted with the limitations of his own talent. Believing God is mocking him by granting prodigious talent to such an “obscene child,” Salieri seeks revenge on God by destroying Mozart. Eventually the passion that these two shared brought the downfall of each.
