Winner of the 1997 Tony Award for Best Play, The Last Night of Ballyhoo was written by Alfred Urhy who also won the Pulitzer Prize and Academy Award for Driving Miss Daisy. This enchanting bittersweet comedy about pride, prejudice and the denial of ones heritage, tells the story of a prominent Jewish family living in Atlanta in 1939. It focuses on two cousins who are preparing for the German/Jewish Ballyhoo Ball as Gone With the Wind is premiering in Atlanta and Hitler is invading Poland. It is a stroy about anti-Semitism and disassociated Jews trying to assimilate into the culture of being Southerners first.
