About this show

Frivolous man-about-town Algernon Moncrieff has invented a fictitious invalid friend named Bunbury, who regularly requires his presence in the country. His countrified friend Jack Worthing has created an imaginary brother named Ernest, who frequently requires his presence in town. Providing the perfect excuse to avoid all manner of social occasions, these seemingly harmless deceptions cause colossal confusion as the truth is unravelled when both men make proposals of marriage. But precisely who wants to marry whom? Central to proceedings is the dominant figure of Lady Bracknell, whose disapproval of Jack as a potential fiancée for her daughter Gwendolen acts as a catalyst for the events that ensue. James Pellow undertakes the invigorating challenge of playing the patriarchal role of Lady Bracknell in a way that reinforces the absurdity of her character whilst conveying the sincerity of her convictions and social status.
