About This Show

Live Arts Festival favorites Pig Iron Theatre Company, creators of Love Unpunished (2006) and Pay Up (2005), turn their attention to an unlikely source…the words of William Shakespeare. Taking the Bard’s problem play, Measure for Measure, and giving it a few good rips, the critically acclaimed cast radically reworks a classic script into a breathtaking spectacle of human puppetry, designed to give audiences a visceral sense of Shakespeare’s dystopian vision.

In a hospital morgue, a lonely mortician stages his most private fantasies with the cadavers under his care. His questions about death and desire become a dance macabre that veers from delicate to shocking, from poignant to ridiculous. A head-on confrontation with unexplored issues of sexual and political manipulation, Isabella is Pig Iron’s third collaboration with Hungarian set designer Anna Kiraly. Prepare for a whole new take on Shakespeare!

Isabella is presented as part of the Live Arts Festival.
