About This Show
Talented playwrights compete for hundreds of dollars in cash prizes in this popular annual competition of short plays. For three weeks, a different program each week of short plays is presented. Each week, the audience votes for a favorite. The three winners compete against each other on the fourth and final weekend for a grand prize of the largest cash award. Again, the audience selects its favorite play.
Weekend One, July 27-29:
The Aftertime Written by Jason Britt and Eric Saari. Directed by Britt. In a city devastated by the effects of a nuclear war, novel approaches to food-getting are adopted by the survivors.
The Bad Place Written by Kerr Seth Lordygan. Directed by Justin Bowler. Corporate employees find themselves ensconced in mind-numbing jobs in a company culture rife with gossip. The most senior employee among them is able to show them a way out of their trap.
Tight Genes Written by Peggy Doughtery. Directed by Tom Bonasera. An aging woman reveals a shocking family secret to her grown daughter. But the daughter has a secret of her own in this comedy.
Weekend Two, August 3-5.:
Block Party Written by Jennifer Kenyon. Directed by Fuz. Bettina has noisy dogs that yap all the time plus an unkempt lawn. Are those reasons to kill her? Somebody thought so, and there is no shortage of suspects in this pitch-dark comedy.
Party Time written by Michael Wolfson. Directed by Dana Amromin. A pair of contentious sisters find themselves role-playing in all-too-real Mad Tea Party ( a la Lewis Carroll), with potentially dire consequences.
Kamasutra by Tom Coash. Directed by Charles Reed. A long-married woman on vacation with her husband in India hopes that fabled erotic carvings can rekindle their passion.
Weekend Three, August 10-12:
Meeting Steve Written by Mike Hammari. Directed by Jeff Griffith. A lonely young man turns to speed dating in his quest to find The One.
Ida’s Home Written by Jean Blasiar. Directed by Kay Cole. A woman in a Jewish senior citizen’s home learns that her Irish daughter-in-law has scored a role on her favorite soap opera.
Two Dogs, a Gun & an Alarm Written by Nick Vigorito, Jr. Directed by Aurora Nibley. A young man’s home has been burglarized. His ex-marine dad knows just what he needs (Refer to the title).
Weekend Four, August 17-19:
The audience favorites from each of the three prior weeks.
