Speaking Ring Theatre Company presents Vitality III, the company’s third annual one-act play festival. This year’s festival asked playwrights to submit work related to the following theme: The Boiling Point: Examining How We React When Pushed to an Extreme and How We Are Changed.
PARTICIPANTS
The List by Kristyn Leigh Robinson (Newark, DE): An old pact between a neglectful husband and his wife comes back to haunt him in this, sometimes light-hearted, sometimes dark, look at modern marriage from the author or last year’s winner, Mundanity.
Ultimate: Two-time winner Ryan Burkett (Fenton, MO) pens this tale of painful childhood memories, revenge, and the search for a lost Frisbee.
Circle Line by Jill Elaine Hughes (Chicago, IL ): Stuck in a train station for a seeming eternity, two couples talk themselves into circles toward a startling climax… or is it just another beginning?
15 Minutes: How far would you go for your 15 minutes of fame? Jaime Tintor (Sarasota, FL) poses that question in this dark satire of our obsession with reality television.
Another Beginning: An accountant and a beautiful model find themselves locked in a room, manipulated by a force they can’t see in this dark vision of the future by Elena Naskova (Seattle, WA).
Ich Wunsche Den Schonen Liebestod (Roughly Translated: I Want the Beautiful Love-Death): Returning to our festival for the third year in a row, Lisa Konoplisky (Madison, WI) brings talk show hosts, philanthropists, and Jesus Christ himself together for this satiric look at pop culture.
Audrey in Dresses: A young woman attempts to come to terms with her mother’s death in this touching drama by Jason Williamson (Greensboro, NC)
Coffee: Imagine the worst day of your life… then add coffee. Ryan Burkett’s second winning entry takes the modern break-up to a whole new level.
Young Mr. Ryan’s Ambition: Young Mr. Ryan needs someone to help him get into “the club.” But he has no idea what funhouse of horrors awaits him at a dinner party held by the powerful Mr. Reinhurst.. or Captain Reinhurst, if you prefer… in this absurdist comedy by Jeff Kauffman (Los Angeles, CA).
