Caryl Churchill’s controversial ten-minute play, Seven Jewish Children: A Play for Gaza is billed as “a history of Israel” that ends with the bombing of Gaza.
In times of war and crisis, how we speak to our children very much mirrors the voice that justifies more violent means of self-preservation to our better more compassionate selves. Seven Jewish Children: A Play for Gaza uses such parental dialogues in seven cryptic scenes that take us from the Holocaust to the foundation of the state of Israel, through various Middle East wars up to the recent invasion of Gaza.
Director Andrew Manley’s production will transform each scene into a looped performance that will run continuously from 7pm until 10 pm each night.
Performances are free, but donations will be accepted that go specifically to Medical Aid for Palestinians, a British charity that operates in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
