New York City
James McLure’s Private Wars is set in the 1970’s and revolves around three men, all who have seen action in Vietnam, and who are now recouperating in a VA mental hospital. Gately is a hillbilly obsessively fixing a radio. Silvio is a street-wise punk whose sex organs have been damaged (maybe). Natwick is a rich kid from Long Island, snobbishly rude and deeply insecure. None are able to cope with the reality of the outside world. As time passes, they tease, torment, and ultimately help each other to try to “get out.”
