New York City
Set in a world described by Ben Brantley of The New York Times as a “waking dreamscape where the promise of violence broods in even the coziest corners” Far Away takes us to a place thrown into complete chaos by world war. The play tells the story of Joan (Baize Buzan), a young woman who has grown up in a constant state of fear and paranoia. Sent to live with her aunt Harper (Elizabeth Dowling) as a child, she has come of age in a strange world where everything is in constant combat: countries, animals, even forces of nature. Joan spends her formative years working in a hat shop with Todd (Bernie Balbot), with whom she falls in love, only to have their relationship complicated by the onset of total war and confusion.
