About This Show

Alley Theatre Resident Company Actor James Black directs Larry Shue’s The Foreigner as part of the ExxonMobil Summer Chills series at the Alley Theatre.

Charlie and his friend Froggy leave their native England for a getaway to a remote fishing lodge in backwoods Georgia. When Froggy has to leave Charlie with hostess Betty and her entourage of bizarre friends, he saves his extremely shy friend from conversation by telling everyone that Charlie doesn’t speak English. With Charlie communicating only in gibberish, people indiscriminately spill their secrets in his presence. A series of silly situations and hilarious interchanges comes to a climax when Charlie and the motley crew of lodge guests must confront the mean-spirited Owen Musser.

There will be an open-captioned and American Sign Language-interpreted performance on Sunday, August 10 at 2:30 p.m.
