In a thrilling collaboration between Stages Repertory Theatre and the Hobby Center, EarlyStages programming provides the family component to the Hobby Center’s Uniquely Houston® series.

Manning Mpinduzi-Mott directs How Anansi the Spider Came to America, by Frank Higgins, directed by Manning Mpinduzi-Mott. Deep in the hold of a slave ship bound for America, Shontay and her mother say goodbye to their African homeland and await an uncertain future. Determined to salvage the stories of their culture, Shontay’s mother begins to tell her young daughter the story of Anansi, the trickster spider. Soon Anansi appears with a colorful cast of characters to share some of Africa’s greatest folktales.

Recommended for grades 3 and up.
