About This Show

Broward on Broadway opens its 2005-2006 season with Bye Bye Birdie. This show depicts the era of the late 1950s and early 1960s, when the Elvis Presley phenomenon captured the country’s attention. The title character, Conrad Birdie, has just been drafted into the army, and his manager, Albert Peterson, has to come up with one more promotion to capitalize on Birdie’s fame before the 2-year army hitch begins. His faithful secretary, Rose Alvarez, concocts a scheme wherein Birdie will bestow a farewell kiss on a member of his fan club, and the kiss will be nationally televised on The Ed Sullivan Show. The hoopla that follows is nothing short of hysterical, as friends and family of Kim Macafee, the chosen fan, try to get in on the action.
