About the Show

Pembroke Pines Theatre of the Performing Arts presents the classic musical version of L. Frank Baum’s popular children’s book The Wizard of Oz. Based on the 1939 MGM classic, complete with memorable songs like “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Follow the Yellow Brick Road,” and “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” the musical is a treat for the entire family.

Dissatisfied with her life on the Kansas farm of her Auntie Em and Uncle Henry, Dorothy is attempting to run away when a twister strikes; Dorothy is knocked unconscious, and she, Toto and her entire house are lifted up into the storm and deposited squarely on top of the now-deceased Wicked Witch of the East in Munchkin City, in the County of the Land of Oz. Dorothy and Toto emerge from their house to meet the amazing inhabitants of this strange new land, including the Munchkins and Glinda, The Good Witch of the North. After a frightening run-in with The Wicked Witch of the West, Dorothy wants nothing more than to return home to Kansas. Glinda advises her to visit the mysterious Wizard of Oz, who lives in the Emerald city at the end of the yellow brick road and who has the power to accomplish almost anything. Along the way Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. Together they travel down the yellow brick road toward the Emerald City.

Performances will be held at the Walter C. Young Resource Center’s, Jim Davidson Theatre in Pembroke Pines.
