The 2022 production of The Nutcracker Ballet, presented by Angie Hahn's Academy of Dance, contains much of the original choreography of Iacob Lascu, whose collaboration with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra resulted in a 23-year run of the ballet in downtown Detroit. A popular and often sold-out event, the Dance Detroit/DSO Nutcracker debuted in 1974 and welcomed audiences in three major downtown venues, including Ford Auditorium, the Fox Theatre and Detroit Opera House.
Miss Marie Rabey and Miss Angie Hahn were affiliated with the DSO Nutcracker for many years, performing many roles, including solos and principal parts. Miss Marie Rabey also acted as the Ballet Mistress for the production and received permission from Mr Lascu to carry on the preservation and teaching of his choreography. Mr Lascu attended our Nutcracker and always gave his accolades to our dancers, encouraging us to continue this holiday tradition each year. We believe his spirit lives on through our production and look forward to many more Nutcrackers to come.
