About This Show

Theatre Arlington presents William Gibson’s heart-wrenching drama, The Miracle Worker. This production recounts the enduring tale of Helen Keller, who became deaf and blind due to illness as an infant, and her courageous teacher Annie Sullivan, once blind herself. By the time Helen is six years old, her family is unable to discipline her. Desperate, the family sends for a teacher to reach into Helen?s dark world. Annie is headstrong and quickly takes to using force to teach Helen societal basics, such as table manners. The two struggle physically and mentally for two weeks before Helen?s miraculous breakthrough, in which she finally understands the power of language and is able to communicate her comprehension to the rest of the world.
