Kiss of the Spider Woman is Manuel Puig’s stage adaptation of his own novoel. The show takes place in a Latin American prison where two prisoners – Valentin and Molina – share a cell. Day in and day out, amid horrible conditions, they struggle to maintain their humanity, forming a bond, that is stronger than the bars and deprivation. They retain their sanity by recounting the plotline of a B-movie about a woman, in love with a man, but is torn because at night she transforms into a cat. It is this soap opera fantasy that becomes a sensual account of love and compassion, for two men who are living among conditions of cruelty and repression.
