About This Show

Based on the book Le Corsaire by Lord Byron (1814), the ballet is set in a faraway land at a time when pirates ruled the seas.

The exotic fable centers on a pirate’s passion for a beautiful enslaved harem girl. It travels from a noisy Turkish bazaar to a pirate grotto and then to a dazzling palace full of beautiful dancing ladies belonging to a wealthy Pasha. Wrapped up in suspense and romance, Le Corsaire is filled with pirate fights and pirate dancing, and even a shipwreck on a windswept desert island.

Le Corsaire is a full-length production with beautiful sets and costumes that has rapidly become one of the famous company’s most popular ballets. With several lead roles for both male and female dancers, this ballet delivers a large dose of bravura-style dancing that spotlights the depth and talent of this New York-based company.
