About This Show

UnTwelve, formally known as ‘MidwestMicrofest’, is the concert organization whose mission is to explore “the notes between the notes” by commissioning and performing works in unusual tunings. The idea is to use more of the entire pitch palette, not just the 12 colors we are accustomed to. Come help launch what promises to be an exciting and rewarding season and long-term musical journey into new sonic territory! The July 31st event is a fundraiser–looking to make some money which will allow a presentation of the finest artists in the field to UnTwelve audiences. More information on possible contribution levels will be available at the event. The event itself will feature Jacob Barton, who will play, in the tradition of Harry Partch, on the bizarre and wonderful invented instrument, the ‘Udderbot’; Andrew Heathwaite will play a quirky set of postmodern Mayan chaos-pop songs on the Turkish banjo; UnTwelve director Aaron Krister Johnson will present some evocative, spacious and otherworldly keyboard music and choral music; and co-director Chris Bailey will present a continuous, effervescent sound installation.
