Steve Martin’s adaptation of German playwright Carl Sternheim’s farce from 1910, The Underpants begins when Louise’s underpants accidentally fall down as she stretches up on tiptoe to watch the king’s procession. After hordes of men watch, they follow her to her home, where she and her husband Theo have a room to rent. Suddenly, they’re besieged by prospective tenants.
