About This Show

Delia Coy Gray directs Benard Cummings’ play which is a clash between cultures, generations, and attitudes. Mama Olun, a midwife who has given up on “modern” culture befriends a pregnant 14-year-old girl. Mysticism mixes with the modern in this tale of rifts getting mended across familial, cultural, and geographic lines. The Grandmama Tree is the recipient of the 1998 Theodore Ward Prize for Playwriting.
