About This Show

The Goodman Theatre opens its 2002-2003 Stage Door Series with The Bard or Not the Bard ? That is the Question, a simulated judicial appeal that features leading Chicago judges and lawyers addressing the intriguing literary conundrum: who is the true author of the Shakespeare canon? Be present when Edward de Vere the 17th Earl of Oxford, respected Elizabethan poet and intimate of Queen Elizabeth I, appeals the traditional judgement that the glover?s son from Stratford was that author. The audience will hear the Earl?s counsel argue that the Man From Stratford possessed neither the brains nor beauty of language exhibited by the author, then hear the counter-argument that the Earl, accomplished poet and court favorite, had no reason to hide his authorship of the plays and poems.

The provided box lunch may be purchased for an additional $20.
