About This Show

Mary Zimmerman directs Pericles, William Shakespeare’s fantastical journey, full of romance and spectacle. The play begins in Antioch, where Prince Pericles of Tyre must solve a riddle to win the hand of a princess. But when he discovers the horrible truth of the riddle’s solution, Pericles must flee for his life. He sets sail, traveling from kingdom to kingdom, to fall in love with another princess and conceive a daughter. After a terrible storm at sea strikes their ship, Pericles is separated from his wife and child and spends the next 14 years without them. Their miraculous reunion is considered one of the most joyous, beautiful, and moving scenes of all time.

Zimmerman, who staged this play previously at The Shakespeare Theatre, was praised by the Washington Post, which called it “an evening of bewitching ingenuity and bountiful surprise.”

Performed in the Albert Theatre.
