About This Show

In 1968, a year after the Detroit race riots, Kate and Martin, a well-educated, well-intentioned young white couple, move to Palmer Park. Palmer Park is a formerly grand Detroit neighborhood striving to maintain its respectability in the face of a massive white exodus to the suburbs. Here, middle-class black and white families live side-by-side, and the neighbors rally around the cause of integration. But when a nearby school in an all-black neighborhood threatens to send children to Palmer Park’s Hampton Elementary, the delicate and hard-won racial balance is threatened and members of this integrated enclave are forced to question their values and allegiances. Written by Joanna McClelland Glass. Directed by Goodman Resident Director Chuck Smith.
