Artistic Director Barbara Gaines explores the relationship between kingship and conscience in William Shakespeare’s King John. A play about power politics, shifting allegiances and self-serving expediency, Shakespeare depicts a king, surrounded by many conflicting personalities and agendas, whose unsteady royal mind becomes just one element in a tense array of rapidly changing events.
