About This Show

Giving Sorrow Words, an adaptation from the anthology of poetry by the same name (edited by the National Association for Poetry Therapy). The selected poems viscerally explore the theme of how to find hope after traumatic experiences without denying the reality of those experiences, and were adapted for the stage by Artistic Director Nick Jones and Director of Production Peter Anderson. Jones will direct this production, which consists of an ensemble-driven poetic narrative that is separated into the seasons of fall, winter and spring. Selected poems from the 12 total adapted include “Autumn” by Rainer Marie Rilke, “For My Young Friends Who are Afraid” by William Stafford, “The Dead” by former poet laureate Billy Collins, and “New Bones” by Lucille Clifton.
