greasy joan & company kicks off its 2003/2004 season with the world premiere of Dreams of Desire: Classic Short Stories by Gabriel García Márquez, Shirley Jackson, and Virginia Woolf, directed by Julieanne Ehre, the company's new Artistic Director. Featured works include: "Eyes of a Blue Dog" by García Márquez, "The Lovely House" by Jackson and "Together and Apart" by Woolf. What the three stories hold in common--aside from their being works of noted authors--is the exploration of longing and desire. All three stories are characterized by a dreamlike quality, where the subconscious pulls characters into an alternate reality. The stories will be staged very simply with minimal design aspects; instead the focus of the production is on the text and movement.
