New York City
greasy joan & company kicks off its 2003/2004 season with the world premiere of Dreams of Desire: Classic Short Stories by Gabriel García Márquez, Shirley Jackson, and Virginia Woolf, directed by Julieanne Ehre, the company’s new Artistic Director.
Featured works include: “Eyes of a Blue Dog” by García Márquez, “The Lovely House” by Jackson and “Together and Apart” by Woolf. What the three stories hold in common–aside from their being works of noted authors–is the exploration of longing and desire. All three stories are characterized by a dreamlike quality, where the subconscious pulls characters into an alternate reality. The stories will be staged very simply with minimal design aspects; instead the focus of the production is on the text and movement.
