Chicago’s emerging directors tackle works ranging from classic to experimental in the 19th Annual Chicago Directors Festival at Bailiwick Repertory. Twelve directors were selected from a pool of entries for their choice of play and their written directing statement on what the project’s goals and expectations are. Some directors were inspired by classic texts by Euripides, Camus, and contemporary classics by Shel Siverstein and Sam Shepard. Others have been drawn to new works by contemporary playwrights, including many world premieres.
