About This Show

The National New Play Network is an alliance of theatres that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays for the American theatre. This is the second national festival of readings that the network has presented, the first being held in Philadelphia in June 2002, hosted by InterAct Theatre Company. This year, four Midwestern theatres – Chicago Dramatists, PROP THTR (Chicago), The Phoenix Theatre (Indianapolis), and Performance Network (Ann Arbor) – have organized the event and have selected 18 plays from 17 different American theaters. Selected from over 75 submissions, the chosen works include comedies and dramas, mysteries and romances. They tackle personal and national issues, explore psychological realism and fantasy, as well as history and myth, and take place in both period and contemporary settings.

In addition to the readings, there will be a party Sunday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. at PROP THTR Company’s new home, 3502 N. Elston Ave. (just south of Addison). Tickets are $10 for food, drinks, entertainment, and a discussion.
