Now in it’s 10th Year, the Tim Sims Encouragement Fund once again honours a promising up-and-coming comedian or comedic act with a $4000.00 cash award of recognition at the 2006 Cream of Comedy – the freshest, funniest annual comedy event Toronto has to offer. This year’s nominees were chosen out of hundreds of hopefuls, by a jury of comedy pundits. They are:
Rebecca Addelman:
At 25, Rebecca has been performing her own brand of solo comedy for a year and a half. She currently writes and performs for the XM satellite radio fake news show The Humber Report.
Nathan Fielder:
Nathan Fielder has been performing stand-up comedy for one year. The 23-year-old recently graduated with a post-graduate certificate in Comedy Writing and Performance from Humber College.
Black Roses:
Hayley Gratto and Chelsea P. Manders, have been performing together as the Black Roses for a year and a half. Having just finished a Fringe Festival Tour (Montreal / Toronto / London) where they were chosen Funniest Show and Producer’s Pick (London Fringe), they can now be heard on CBC Radio One, XM Satellite Radio, CIUT FM 98.5.
Desiree Lavoy:
Desiree has been performing comedy since January of 2005, appearing at many different comedy venues throughout Toronto. She is also a member of the local sketch comedy troupe, “Late Night Gigin.”
Andrew Johnston:
After a promising start in musical theatre, the 25-year-old submitted to his dirty, forbidden first love: comedy. Since moving to Toronto and pursuing stand-up comedy for the better part of the past year, Andrew was named the winner of Toronto’s citywide Laugh-Off competition at Yuk Yuk’s and has since been added to their roster.
Cream of Comedy is co-hosted by Gavin Crawford and Aurora Browne.
