Drawing upon the rich local theater community, Block Party: Celebrating Los Angeles Theatre comes to the Kirk Douglas Theatre for the festival's third season. Presented over six weeks, the event will feature three productions from local 99-seat or smaller theaters. Los Angeles is home to over 250 theater companies that feature an abundance of talent, diversity, and ingenuity. Center Theatre Group is tapping into this deep pool of artists for the event, highlighting some of the best work the city has to offer.
Center Theatre Group has a long history of pairing with local theater companies of all sizes in a multitude of ways, including Deaf West's production of Big River, Walking the Tightrope, The Behavior of Broadus, Birder, and, most recently, The Hotel Play. Center Theatre Group received over 125 submissions for the first two years of Block Party: Celebrating Los Angeles Theatre. The plays selected for the current season are Playwrights' Arena's production of Bloodletting, Critical Mass Performance Group's production of Ameryka, and Celebration Theatre's production of Die, Mommie, Die!
