About This Show

Mandel Concert and Chekhov’s rarely performed gem The Harmfulness of Tobacco

Featuring the acclaimed music of Resident Composer Ellen Mandel, recently profiled as one of our leading women composers, and the magical voice of ensemble member Jessica Crandall performing works inspired by Edward Hopper, ee cummings, and Glyn Maxwell. Art and grace is interrupted by a nervous, unlucky man who has been compelled to give a charity lecture on the harmfulness of tobacco. Public speaking is not his forte. As he bumbles along he reveals his Chekhovian soul, vulnerability, foibles and humanness. Performed by John Lenartz, one of New York’s finest character actors.
