About This Show

Unrequited love never sounded so good. Irresistibly melodic and extraordinarily romantic, Boston Lyric Opera’s new production of Massenet’s Werther is set in an arrondissement outside Paris and a cinematic dreamscape inspired by the poetic realism of film director Jean Renoir. Based on Goethe’s heartbreaking novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther, the story unfolds as a dying artist recounts the love he cannot forget. Tenor Alex Richardson makes his BLO debut as Werther opposite BLO favorite Sandra Piques Eddy. BLO Music Director David Angus conducts the Boston Lyric Opera Orchestra. Crystal Manich (I Puritani 2014) directs.
