About This Show

Have you ever looked through a window and imagined flying to the stars, sailing across the ocean, or hiking up and over the mountains along the horizon? For one young slave girl, her hopes and dreams are wrapped up in a
quilt — lovingly sewn together by her grandmother – -that will one day lead them to freedom.

Under the Night Sky is a shadow puppet show inspired by the children’s book Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilts, by Deborah Hopkinson, which features collective narrative poems that illustrate a family’s journey under the night sky.
