About This Show

For all of its complexity, The Tempest is one of Shakespeare’s purest, simplest plays. The story of Prospero, the deposed Duke of Milan, his daughter Miranda, and Ariel and Caliban, the inhabitants of the island Prospero is banished to, has enthralled audiences through the ages. It is a story of brothers’ betrayal and of the powerful release of forgiveness, it is a story of the struggle between civilization and nature, and it is a story of the joy and responsibility of love. Drawing on traditions as diverse as African storytelling, Japanese Butoh dance, Italian commedia dell’arte, and the spirit of Carnival, the CSC production will create a swirl of music, movement, and theatricality that will celebrate Shakespeare’s ode to the miraculous journey of life.

Admission is free.
