The Seagull

The Seagull is Chekhov’s masterpiece about the follies of love among the Russian upper class. The play has been transported to modern day America, where at a country estate, family and friends spend their summers exploiting, rejecting, and yearning for love. Konstantin, son of the famous actress Arkadina, produces a play that threatens to overturn conventional theater and his mother’s position as best-known actress in their province – all for the love of Nina, who signs her letters “the Seagull”, and who idolizes the older actress’ novelist-lover, Trigorin.
