Rusalka

Boston Lyric Opera presents Dvorák’s Rusalka, sung in Czech with projected English translation. The young water sprite, Rusalka, falls in love with a human prince and will do anything to escape her enchanted moonlit world and become human. The sea witch alone has the power to grant her wish, but her potion comes at a very high price. The contrasting worlds of the ethereal lake and woods and the palace of the prince are created with state-of-the-art lighting and projection technology for a captivating visual experience. Skirt the lines of fantasy and reality with this dark tale of romance and sacrifice, wrapped in the allure of magic and spells.

The terrific cast includes internationally acclaimed soprano Marquita Lister as Rusalka and Nancy Maultsby as the sea witch, her second magical role with BLO in recent years. BLO performs the Boston premiere of Rusalka, and then concludes the season with an old favorite, Mozart’s timeless Don Giovanni.
