About This Show

Winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for drama, Our Town is considered the classic portrayal of small-town American life before the dawn of the Industrial Era. Set in the fictional town of Grovers Corners, New Hampshire, the play unfolds as the coming-of-age journey of George and Emily, a young man and young woman who experience an early courtship, marriage, and Emily’s young death, after which she and other inhabitants of the town’s graveyard describe their peace and reflect on the living world. Considered enormously innovative in its time for its lack of props and scenery, and revered for its sentimental but realistic depictions of middle-class America, Our Town is a staple of American theater and a unique portrait of a time long gone but not forgotten. Edward Eaton directs.
