About This Show

Wry, acerbic, funny, profound and heartbreaking, Middletown takes place in a small American town, where a wide array of characters’ lives intersect – a cop, a librarian, a tourist, a doctor in a library, the town square, outer space, a hospital bed. There is an uncanny honesty in the characters and the dialogue. Hidden fears, anxieties, dashed hopes and dreams are expressed underneath the small-town social pleasantries. Described as a cross between Thornton Wilder’s Our Town and Samuel Beckett, it won the Horton Foote Prize for Promising New American Play. It is filled with distinct, foibled, funny and well-written character roles with dramatic arcs for women and men.
