About This Show

Zeitgeist Stage Company presents two plays – Circle by Suzanne Bachner & Chain by Pearl Cleage – about love and bondage in repertory at the Boston Center for the Arts.

Circle by Suzanne Bachner: Performances are Friday, Saturday, & Sunday nights at 8 PM, 2/21 – 3/15/03. The play puts a contemporary spin on Arthur Schnitzler’s Reigin, the revolutionary sex comedy that scandalized turn-of-the-century Vienna. The pairings in this theatrical roundelay fall all over the sexual map: a men’s-room tryst at Starbucks, lesbian lovers on Viagra, a lesson in dungeon protocol, a hookup in cyberspace, and even a married couple in bed. Winner of a 2001 Off-Off-Broadway Review (OOBR) Award.

Chain by Pearl Cleage: Performances are Wednesday & Thursday at 8 PM and Saturday & Sunday at 5 PM, 2/22 – 3/15/03. This one-woman show tells the story of Rosa, a teenage crack addict, chained to the radiator by her parents in a desperate attempt to break her drug habit. Seen over seven days, Rosa experiences withdrawal followed by sobriety while telling the funny, frightening, exhilarating and, ultimately, uplifting story of how a demure kid from the South ended up in these circumstances.

Tickets for both shows combined may be purchased for $30. “Pay What You Can” performances for CHAIN on Wednesday nights. Special discounted preview performances, 2/21 – 2/23, are $10 for either show.
