About This Show

The Boston Celtic Music Fest (BCMFest) presents its second annual
winter fest, Friday and Saturday January 7-8, 2005. With some of
Boston’s best Irish, Scottish and Cape Breton music and dance acts,
this year’s festival features a kick-off concert and dance on Friday
evening; three indoor stages, additional acoustic sets and session
opportunities on Saturday during the day; and a special evening finale
concert of new Celtic music from Boston.

FRIDAY NIGHT Kick-Off Concert at Club Passim, 7pm
(47 Palmer St.)
Our festival opens at legendary folk venue, Club Passim, nestled in the
heart of Harvard Square. Passim’s intimate listening room is home to
fine Celtic acts year-round, and this evening’s show features music
from The Hanneke Cassel Band, Boston Celtic Singers in the Round, and
Noel Scott & Chris McGrath.

FRIDAY NIGHT Boston Urban Ceilidh Dance at Watertown’s Canadian
American Club, 8pm
(202 Arlington St.)
Grab your dance shoes and your party attitude and head to the Boston
Urban Ceilidh. A true gathering of Irish, Scottish and Cape Breton
social and music scenes, the party begins at 8pm with Emerald Forman
and friends playing for Cape Breton Urban Square Sets; the 9pm set is
led by the Irish Urban Ceili Band; and at 10pm the Laura Cortese and
the BUC band rocks out for Scottish Ceilidhs, called by Hanneke Cassel.

SATURDAY, DAYTIME
Doors open at 10am at VFW for registration for all three daytime venues.

Celtic Club at the VFW: 371 Summer Street in Somerville (in Winter Hill
Bank Building, at the end of Davis Square)
From 10am-5:30pm, BCMFest will transform Somerville’s VFW Dilboy Post
#529 into a cool, club experience. With lights, space for dancing, cash
bar, and some of the festival’s largest acts, this year’s Celtic Club
is a BCMFest destination for all ages. Featured acts include the Boston
Dance Showcase, Childsplay, Tina Lech & Peter Molloy, TRADBOT, EJ
Ouellette & Crazy Maggy and MORE!

BCMFest at the Burren: 247 Elm Street, Davis Square
From 11am-5:45pm, chill out at the renowned Burren Irish Bar for food,
refreshments and two rooms of music. The Back Room will showcase
sublime songsters and instrumentalists Aoife Clancy, Helena Delaney &
Triona Tammenagi, Lissa Schneckenburger Band, Lindsay Turner, Liofa and
Ken Pearlman.

BCMFest Concert Stage at Jimmy Tingle’s: 255 Elm Street, Davis Square
From 10:30am-5pm, escape to BCMFest’s theater listening room. Get up
close with performers in this intimate and friendly venue, featuring
Fiddles in the Round, Shannon Heaton & 10-Speed Trad, Eric Merrill &
the Western Star, Laura Cortese and Friends, Irish Stepdancing, and
Highland Dance Boston.

SATURDAY NIGHT Finale Concert at First Church in Harvard Square, 8pm
Tunes of Beantown
Under the direction of accordionist/pianist Susie Petrov, this concert
will present original compositions written by Boston Celtic composers.
Nine musicians and two dancers will come together to create a
performance of new music, song and dance. Both traditional-style and
modern, innovative tunes will be featured. With Robbie O’Connell,
Patrick Murray, Jaqueline Schwab, Laura Risk, Mairin UiCheide, Flynn
Cohen, Ellery Klein, Brendan Carey Block, Kieran Jordan and more,
Irish, Scottish and Cape Breton traditions will be represented. This
event will open and close with the acclaimed Tulach Ard Pipe Band.
