About This Show

Jim Murphy directs Richard Nelson’s witty homage to the screwball American comedies of the 1930’s. George Abbott, Hecht & MacArthur, and Kaufman & Hart are some of Nelson’s likely inspirations. Set on an ocean liner in 1936, An American Comedy is a wild romp full of quick-timed surprises, as Broadway playwrights struggle to meet their deadlines. Second Stage Theatre Company presents this farcical take on American art, politics and theatrical commerce, which transfers to the Firehouse from the New Repertory Theatre.
