Taproot Theatre Announces 2009 Season

The season schedule has been announced for Taproot Theatre’s 2009 season, which will include three regional premieres.

The season will open with Gee’s Bend by Elyzabeth Wilder, January 30-February 28. Karen Lund will direct this story of the African-American women in Gee’s Bend, Alabama, where discarded rags, scraps and bits of thread are pieced into quilts. Tuesdays with Morrie will follow, March 27-April 25, an adaptation of Mitch Albom’s best-selling autobiography by Jeffrey Hatcher and Albom. Lund will also take the helm for this production.

The regional premiere of Around the World in 80 Days will play May 22-June 20. Scott Nolte will direct Mark Brown’s adaptation of Jules Verne’s novel about a bet to travel around the world in 80 days. Smoke on the Mountain Homecoming, the third and final installment in the Sanders family series, will play July 10-August 15 with Nolte at the helm. Written by Connie Ray, the piece was conceived by Alan Bailey with musical arrangements by Mike Craver. Matthew Barber’s Enchanted April will close the season, September 25-October 24. The director for this production will be announced at a later date.
