Tony nominee Colman Domingo’s solo show A Boy and His Soul has been added to Intiman Theatre’s 2011 season, to run October 21-November 20, with an opening on October 28. It replaces the previously reported new adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which will now be presented in 2012.
Directed by Tony Kelly, the play follows the journey of Domingo’s upbringing through a box of vinyl records discovered in the basement of his boyhood home. Detailing his childhood in a working-class background and the pivotal moment of coming out as a gay African-American man in 1980’s Philadelphia, the tunes of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer and more move him through a soundtrack of his past.
Domingo was recently seen on Broadway in The Scottsboro Boys and previously received an Obie Award for his work on the Broadway musical Passing Strange. A Boy and His Soul received a 2010 GLAAD Media Award for the show’s world premiere at the Vineyard Theatre.
The 2011 Intiman season also includes All My Sons (March 18-April 17), The Call (May 13-June 12), The Playboy of the Western World (July 15-August 14), and The Piano Teacher (September 9-October 9).
